It Happened
Saturday, November 10th, 2007It happened. The proposal that is.
I said before that I’ll be fully launching this website when Josh has already asked me to marry him officially. And so he did last October 16, 2007. It was both expected and unexpected. Expected because I’ve been waiting for it since God knows when and totally unexpected because I finally gave up that he won’t do it anytime then.
Two days before he proposed, we were fighting. Weeks before that, we were fighting–a lot. Months before that, we were always talking about the wedding supposedly on December..yes, this year but God had other plans. And thank God for the few people He used to make Josh and I understand more about our commitment to God and each other.
The proposal happened on a Tuesday at my place. I was asking him to leave because I was still not in the mood and I was busy with work. I wasn’t paying much attention to him except when I’d tell him to leave. I wasn’t mad at him or anything, I was just not in the mood. Rrright.
At around 10 pm, I told him to leave again but he suddenly said, “I’m not gonna leave until I give you this.” He knelt down on his knees, opened the box, showed me the ring, and popped the dreaded question. Imagine my surprise! My eyes grew large with bewilderment. I was like, “Oh my god!” deep inside. All I remember saying was, “Why are you doing this?” blah blah blah. He said he’s ready to take the next step with me and can’t wait to be his wife. Now that he has a new job, or he was close to getting one, he said he could now ask my hand in marriage without any qualms.
He asked me again and my answer was a “Yes, alam mo na naman sagot diba?”. And then he heaved a sigh of relief, looked at me in the eye, and smiled again. I smiled back at him.
We celebrated a little. I had to finish my work first so at the stroke of midnight, I hurried to change my clothes, and went to the Old Swiss Inn, one resto we frequent, at the Somerset Hotel in Makati to eat. He ordered corned beef while I ate ceasar salad with my favorite french fries. We prayed. Thanked God for what has happened , for the things he’s been teaching us, and for our future. It was like the first time I decided our relationship becomes official. We ate right after, talked, and prayed for a blessed future.
So that’s it, Josh and Reah are officially engaged as of October 16, 2007. Thus, my 10-16 entry here and here. It’s been more than 3 weeks but no plans have been finalized until our parents meet and talk. That one, “the dinner” or the “pamanhikan” in Filipino is yet to happen…will finally happen tonight, November 11…a day after Joshua’’s birthday.
