The Pamanhikan

Three weeks after Josh popped the question, the traditional pamanhikan happened. It wasn’t the usual pamanhikan when the guy’s family would go to the girl’s house because we had a really nice and quiet dinner at some fancy restaurant.

The Padla’s chose Cravings at the Fraser Place because they wanted more privacy. So anyway, since I wasn’t able to go to church this morning, I had plenty of time to prepare. I wore a dress even if I was actually dreading “the dinner”. I had so many fears. I fear for what could be the outcome. I fear that I might hear that both sets of parents don’t want us getting married this soon.

Prior to “the dinner”, I promised myself that I won’t be saying anything. And what do you know, I really didn’t say a word! Well, except for the occasional..”okay lang po”, “ang sarap nito”, “inaantok na ko”, at “pahingi”, I didn’t say anything about the engagement and the wedding. Joshua’s mom even noticed that and asked me, but I just answered with a sheepish smile.

I wasn’t too comfortable. I felt uneasy. Maybe because fear preceded joy.

TITA EMI: So pano na ba?
JOSH : Eto po ay pormal na pagpapaalam para sa kamay ng inyong anak na si Reah.
MOMMY VAISY: Yun naman pala kamay lang eh. Tsaka na yung isa para may dinner ulit.

That’s my mom. Wait until you hear what my dad said.

TITA EMI: Ano masasabi mo Bro. Pete?
DADDY PETE : Good riddance! Hahahaha! ( sabay tawa nang malakas )

And now you know where I got my pang-aasar. Hahahaha.

I wore a dress to the dinner. I told myself I won’t cry but I did when we were prayed over.

Now, fear is gone and replaced with joy.
